Article Synopsis – New research suggests that climate change could speed up the release of carbon and methane trapped in the subsea permafrost in the Arctic Ocean. “Each year, about 140 million tons (128 metric tons) of carbon dioxide and 5.3 million tons (4.8 metric tons) of methane escape from the permafrost into the atmosphere.
