Hi, John.
It's hard to believe that is been over 50 years since we shared the house in Shermansdale. I was in Perry County just a few weeks ago, and it is strikingly similar to what it was back then; which is sweet.

Having just finished Moving to Higher Ground, I'm glad to see, for all of our sakes, that you have been using your time wisely. Thank you so much for writing this important book, and for your relentless work putting out the clarion call about sea level rise. I really can't imagine any more important calling.

Although I spent about a quarter of my first 20 years on the barrier island of Ocean City, NJ (and loving it), I now live on Hiilcrest Road well above the junction of the Farmington and Connecticut Rivers in Windsor, CT. Also, my wife and I have a vacation cabin at the entrance to New Hampshire's White Mountains, located substantially above any dangers posed by rising creeks. (And they do sometimes roar ferociously.)

I suppose that I could be labeled a "retreater." Throughout my life, I have never forgotten the impact of the March 1962 Nor'easter on the entire Jersey shoreline. Touring Ocean City, once the National Guard let us in, I was struck by the devastation and permanently aware that the ocean can invite itself into your living room any time that it wants to. Consequently, your cogent arguments squarely confirmed my assumptions about the folly of acquiring and holding on to seacoast property, unless you are fully prepared to lose it. (And even then, shame on you for letting your destroyed home pollute the sea.)

Rather than going on and on about my other concerns about our all of our oceans' health. I'll just reiterate my deep appreciation for you life's work. No matter what the ultimate outcomes, we are all indebted to you, John. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Warmly,
Donn

I read your book, rising sea levels, last year and it is a fantastic insight into what we WILL get. If a little frightening.
I also really like your blog's, because they are short and to the point.
Please keep it up, and I would be fascinated to see Greenland, if only.

John
It is frustrating that so many people cannot see beyond the end of their nose these days and the odd time that they do take a look, they are misled by misinformation and disinformation and greedy fact-deniers. It is important to keep assembling this information in the hopes that it might get some attention on PBS and BBC and CBC. Keep up the good work.
