Warmth in Arctic is clear evidence of climate change – Florida Times Union

Article Synopsis – According to a study from the National Academy of Sciences, the United States is seeing twice as many heat records as cold ones. The Arctic is warming at double the rate of global average temperature because melting ice exposes dark ocean there, which absorbs more sunlight and increases the warming effect. November was 18 degrees warmer than usual in the Arctic. This warming is causing a disruption in the Earth’s climate leading to extreme weather events and sea level rise that can be felt all across the U.S. Sea level rise will have an economic impact, especially in the housing and insurance sectors. City planners, builders and developers need to take these risks into account and stop building on the coasts.

This Editorial gets climate change and rising sea level dead on. It’s particularly noteworthy as it is a conservative paper—one of the few that endorsed Trump. This makes their bold clear analysis of the issue and call for adaptation all the more powerful. To read the actual article click here.
