Unusual Warmth pours over North Pole, Potentially Jump-Starting Melt Season for Arctic Ice – The Washington Post

Article Synopsis – Unusually warm air combined with clear skies in the arctic over the North Pole could jump-start the summer melt season this year. The Central Arctic is seeing above-freezing temperatures “about one month earlier than average this week”. The clear skies exacerbate the warming as they contribute to a feedback loop of melting snow and sea ice. Due to the coronavirus, researchers will not be able to study the Greenland Ice Sheet this summer, except through satellite and fixed instrumentation, which will set some studies back significantly. To read the actual article click here
