Swiss Wrap Their Melting Glaciers in Blankets – I4U News
Article Synopsis – The Swiss have a radical idea for protecting their oldest glacier in the Alps. As summer approaches, they cover their Rhône Glacier with large white blankets to try to slow the melting process. The blankets reduce the ice melt by as much as 70 percent, but they are a very temporary fix. Studies show that around two-thirds of the ice volume in the Alps has vanished since 1850. Unlike the melting in the Antarctic and the Greenland ice caps, that of the Alpine glaciers will have little impact on global sea-level rise. To read the actual article click here.
