In reply to Ann Brady.

Indeed. Thank you.

Ann — Indeed. I am as struck by this evolution in me, as you are. I never intended to write a poem as I sat down on the deck of Fish House at dawn yesterday. It was pure inspiration, without premeditation. As Buster said I was out there channeling Ding Darling and Bob Rauschenberg.

It would not have happened without the Rauschenberg Residency. Thanks SO MUCH to you, the Foundation, your great staff, and for the Rising Waters Confab. There is magic at work here. More to come I suspect.

When an issue inspires poetry
Hundreds of concerns assault us daily, most passing on quickly. But when something reaches deeper into our consciousness and inspires music, art and poetry, it has passed into a new realm. Bravo John Englander for leading us into a more moving way to understand our plight.

As for time to come, I am reminded of how it was described by Aldo Leopold who wrote "that most relentless of aggressors, the future."
