Sea levels could rise by more than three metres, shows new study – Phys Org

Article Synopsis – A new study, which takes into account three uncertainties not used in previous models, projects sea level rise of 3 meters (9.8 ft) by 2100 if CO2 output continues unabated. The team’s projection explicitly accounted for three scientific uncertainties – the speed at which the Antarctic ice sheet is going to melt, the speed at which the ocean is warming up, and the amount of emitted greenhouse gases over the 21st century. The team used new projections of Antarctic mass loss and a revised statistical method to reach their conclusions. Previous ‘worst case scenario’ projections have relied more heavily on expert judgment. To read the actual article click here.
