Article Synopsis – A new study analyzed FEMA’s buyout program for flood-prone properties and found that the number of homeowners utilizing the program has gone down in the last 30 years. “Louisiana, Florida, and Mississippi — the three states that have had the highest levels of property damage from flooding — rank lowest in the nation in state-wide property buyouts.” Part of the problem is that local governments do not have equal access to the program and many are not pushing it for their residents.
