Article Synopsis – Rising seas are flooding our coasts now, and the problem will get worse over the next 50 years, but the U.S. has barely begun to consider what’s needed and hasn’t grappled with the costs or who will pay. Rising seas and more powerful storms will cost the nation an additional 0.5 percent of GDP annually by 2100 and a rise of 6 feet would inundate nearly 1.9 million homes worth a combined $882 billion.
