Scientists Assert Climate Change is Allowing Greenhouse Gases to Escape From Melting Permafrost – Futurism

Article Synopsis – A new study indicates that warming temperatures may be releasing methane from layers of gas and oil beneath melting Arctic permafrost. Scientists took air samples in northwestern Canada and found that thawing permafrost is responsible for 17 percent of all measured methane in the region. These hotspots for emissions comprise just 1 percent of the permafrost’s surface area. The scientists concluded that global warming will continue to open new pathways for greenhouse gas emissions as it causes the permafrost to thaw, which in turn feeds the carbon-climate feedback loop. To read the actual article click here.
