Rising tides, rising costs: Sea level increase will impact Bay Area – Fox 13
Article Synopsis – The Tampa Bay area is low lying and vulnerable to sea level rise. Tampa also has an antiquated drainage system that can exacerbate local flooding. A recently approved storm water tax hike is expected to raise $250 million over the next 30 years to help fix the drainage system and pay for other projects throughout the city. With Florida’s coastline averaging 4 feet above sea level, and seas projected to rise by as much as seven feet by 2100, cities will need to adapt and face the possibility of abandonment.
