Rising Seas Increase Methane Emissions from the Mouths of Rivers – Eos

Article Synopsis – New study finds that as sea levels rise, the water floods river deltas causing the wetlands to expand and release methane. Methane is a potent greenhouse gas with more than 20 times the heat-trapping power of carbon dioxide. “Overall, global methane emissions are increasing by about 25 teragrams (one teragram equals about 1.1 million U.S. tons) a year, with total annual emissions at around 550 teragrams, according to NASA”. To read the actual article click here
