Rising Sea Levels Leave Belgium’s St Tropez ‘Fighting for its Life’ – The Guardian

Article Synopsis – The seaside resort of Knokke-Heist, known as Belgium’s St Tropez, is in a “fight for its life” to save its shores from the encroaching sea. In an attempt to protect the Belgian coast against wave damage, the Flemish government has proposed building a 40 hectares (99 acres) artificial island just off the shore of Knokke-Heist. Residents of the town, however, fear that the island will trap oil and waste from barges- polluting their beaches and damaging tourism in the resort town. To read the actual article click here
