Article Synopsis – Scientists predict that upwards of 67 percent of Southern California beaches could be severely damaged by rising sea levels in the next 80 years under predicted scenarios of sea-level rise of three to six feet. In addition to devastating the local tourist economy, the lost beaches will eliminate an important defense for the 18 million people who live near the coast. Losing the protecting swath of beach sand exposes critical infrastructure, businesses and homes to damage. Protecting the beaches from the expected levels of erosion will be time-consuming and costly. To read the actual article click here.
