In Queens, chronic flooding and sea-level rise go hand in hand – Curbed

Article Synopsis – In recent years, residents of Hamilton Beach and Broad Channel, NY, have reported a dramatic increase in the frequency and volume of sunny-day floods. By the 2050s, portions of these two neighborhoods may face daily tidal flooding. A sea level rise of just three feet could leave more than 12,000 New York City residents permanently flooded. To try and combat this flooding, the district is raising streets, constructing bulkheads and storm surge berms, and upgrading the drainage and sewer systems. To read the actual article click here.
