New report suggests sea level rise could swamp Halifax’s Armdale Roundabout – CBC News

nova scotiaArticle Synopsis – NOAA has released a report that says by the year 2100, the oceans could rise by as much as 2.5 meters — with Nova Scotia being particularly hard hit by the repercussions. Nova Scotia would experience more than the average sea level rise due to several factors, including the gravitational pull of the continents, the shape of the ocean basins, and the lifting or sinking of land masses that are still recovering from the ice age. With just one foot of sea level rise, flooding would increase 25-fold. This means that a flood that would normally happen every five years would happen five times a year. In an effort to combat climate change and sea level rise, Nova Scotia came up with an action plan in 2009. To date they have transformed 27 percent of their electricity supply to renewable sources and are on track to have 40 percent generated by renewable power by 2020. To read the actual article click here.
