New Insights into the Contribution of Land Ice to Sea Level Rise – Phys Org

Article Synopsis – A new study has found that there has been “a six-fold increase in annual land ice contribution to global sea level rise from the mid-1990s to the early 2010s”. During most of the 20th century it was melting glaciers and ice caps that contributed the most land ice to sea level rise, but over the last few decades the accelerated melting of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets have surpassed glaciers and ice caps in land ice contributions. These “ice sheets are the largest potential source of future sea level rise and represent the largest uncertainty in projections of future sea level”. To read the actual article click here
