New Climate Action Plan from the White House

This afternoon at Georgetown University, President Obama will announce a far reaching program to reduce greenhouse gases, slow climate change and work harder to adapt. It is sure to be welcome news to those of us that have waited to hear his program

No doubt it will also fan the flames of those who dispute the science and do not want us to do anything to reduce greenhouse gases.

I am making the 21 page document available here. There is a lot here to digest. I expect to have more to say about this in the days ahead.

Pres. plan

Nothing "new" here. More talk about clean coal technology. Which is exactly is what? More talk about Natural gas as a "bridge fuel." As many in the scientific community see it just another bridge to nowhere. Nukes again and not a word about the KXL pipeline and tar sands oil. More Obama style high flying rhetoric is what I see here. The problem is that the science and the reality of climate change doesn't fit well with this plan. Nothing in this plan will IMO significantly lower GHG emissions any time soon if ever. Will he walk the walk here and even follow his own rather "weak" plan is highly suspect when viewed up against his actions in the past. Had he asked Congress for a "Carbon Tax" and told us he was not going to approve the KXL pipeline , then maybe I'd say he's really serious about this issue. This plan though is nothing but the same ideas he's been promulgating for the last 5 yrs. and ignoring when it come to actually acting on them.

Glenn — I hear you. But…

Glenn — I hear you. But let’s not neglect or underestimate the problem of our dysfunctional Congress on these issues.

I can’t argue with that…

I can’t argue with that, nevertheless, in the face of that he still puts forth this non-plan which the Congress will just laugh at. The sad truth is that the Carbon Barons ride herd in DC on both parties. Were going to have to figure this out without much help from that direction. My hope is the rest of the planet will act and DC will follow.
