NC’s First Sea Level Rise Report, 10 Years On – Coastal Review Online

Article Synopsis – In the ten years since the state’s first sea level rise assessment, North Carolina has “boosted its efforts to study and prepare for climate change”. Most of the adaptations have been “implemented at the community level”. That first report in 2010 received a lot of pushback, including a law in 2012 that “forbid the adoption of any rule or policy that defined a rate of sea level rise for regulatory purposes”. The 2012 legislation also required five-year updates to the sea level analysis, “making North Carolina one of the few, if not the only state, with legislation requiring peer-reviewed, sea level rise reporting.” To read the actual article click here
