Margaret Chase Smith Essay: Maine and Climate Change: The View from Greenland – Maine Policy Review

420 kyr graph CO2-T-SLArticle Synopsis – Senator Angus King went on a trip to Greenland last August (2016) to get a better understanding of climate change and how to find solutions to it. The correlation between CO2 levels, temperature, and sea levels tells you all you need to know about climate change, in a nutshell. As the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere increases, the temperature goes up. As the temperature goes up, the sea level rises. The sea level is expected to go up a foot in the next 10-15 years, and a foot a decade after that. In order to come up with solutions, everyone must first understand these facts. There are no easy answers to the problem of climate change, but we have to continue to talk about it because it is one of the most serious issues we have ever faced.

My comment – It was an honor to accompany Senator King on this trip to Greenland. This article gives a great overview to the science and history of climate change as well as where we are headed in the future. To read the actual article click here.
