Article Synopsis – New research suggests that the massive Ross Ice Shelf, which has long been considered stable, may be at risk of melting from seasonal warm water. Since they are floating ice, melting of these ice shelves has no direct effect on global sea levels, but it would allow the land ice to flow more quickly into the ocean, raising sea levels by as much as 38 feet.
