Greenhouse Gas Levels in Atmosphere Reach New Record – World Meteorological Organization

Article Synopsis – Levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere have now reached 405.5 ppm, a new record high, which is driving long-term climate change, sea level rise, ocean acidification and more extreme weather. Levels of methane and nitrous oxide have also increased, and there has been a resurgence of the ozone depleting substance CFC-11. According to the new IPCC report, net emissions of COmust reach zero by 2050 in order “to keep temperature increases to below 1.5°C”, which scientists have determined is necessary to reduce the risks to humans and ecosystems. To read the actual article click here.
