Great Barrier Reef Forecast Warns Entire System at Risk of Bleaching and Coral Death this Summer – The Guardian

Article Synopsis – NOAA has announced there is a 60% chance that the entire Great Barrier Reef will experience mass bleaching and extreme heat stress this summer. The forecast period covers November 2018 to February 2019, which is particularly early as March is usually the worst month for bleaching events. Corals are particularly vulnerable to global warming. “At even 1.5 degrees of warming it estimated the planet would lose 80% of its coral reefs.
