Glaciers in East Antarctica also Imperiled by Climate Change, Researchers Find – American Geophysical Union Press Release

Credit: NASA.

Article Synopsis – A small but significant mass loss in the gigantic Totten Glacier in East Antarctica has now been documented by satellite. East Antarctica has traditionally been viewed by polar researchers as less threatened by climate change than the volatile ice sheets in West Antarctica and the Antarctic Peninsula.
My Comment – Though only hundredths of an inch so far, this is ominous for sea level impact as an early sign of accelerating Antarctic melting and destabilization also affects the larger, more stable Eastern area. For context, see my post from last December that cites Totten.
