Join an amazing VIP experience to witness
the extreme melting of Greenland’s gigantic glaciers

August 11-17, 2020 – 7 Days in Iceland and Greenland

For those interested, the 8 page color brochure can be obtained from this download link: Download Brochure

The purpose of the trip is to see first-hand the rapid melting of the ice sheets and glaciers on Greenland and to learn about the impact on global sea level rise. “Greenland is ‘ground zero’ for global sea level rise. With an area the size of the eastern U.S. and an ice sheet a mile high, the melting and collapse of Greenland’s glaciers potentially can cause 25 feet (8 meters) higher global sea level.

The Rising Seas Institute is hosting a special fact finding expedition to Greenland, August 11-17, 2020. The 7-day exclusive program begins in Reykjavik, Iceland. Space is strictly limited to twelve people.

This is not a commercial tour, but rather a small exclusive program for current and new donors to the Rising Seas Institute, at the Admirals Club level. This VIP program is personally led by Institute President John Englander, a veteran of many polar expeditions and a noted expert on sea level rise.

Program Highlights

  • Fly far out onto the vast ice sheet by chartered helicopter to see the “rivers” of meltwater.
  • Walk on a million-year old glacier, now disappearing in full view
  • Photograph enormous icebergs from water-level by boat
  • Get behind the headlines, and the hype through private briefings from front-line scientists, Arctic experts, military leaders, and locals who have lived there for generations.

This trip will closely follow a previous Rising Seas Institute expedition in 2016 with the Commandant of the US Coast Guard and Senator Angus King. Admiral Zukunft (now retired) sent a great two-minute message back to his troops that will give you an excellent sense of some of the experiences this trip will include. See video window below.

Cost (As Donation to Rising Seas Institute)

This unique expedition is exclusively for the Admiral’s Club level supporters of the Institute. This trip will support the Institute’s work to help the world understand, plan, and adapt to the challenge of rising seas.

By participating in this trip, you will become an Admiral Level Donor. To qualify, a US$ 20,000 donation to the Rising Seas Institute is required. (15,000 British Pounds; 18,000 Euros) The Institute will cover all costs of the expedition starting from Reykjavik, Iceland, including flights to Greenland, hotels, meals, helicopters, boats, and return to Reykjavik.  This is  a rare opportunity to see a world changing in front of our eyes.

The Institute is a nonprofit with US 501c3 tax status, which may enable you to treat some or all of the cost as a tax-deductible contribution, as well as sponsorships by other nonprofits, family foundations, and trusts.  (We can provide more information on this for you or your tax advisor.)

“Why go to Greenland with John Englander? Because the immediacy of rising seas is best appreciated by witnessing the immensity and massive scale of Greenland’s glaciers, and because immersion in that environment, joined by authentic and intelligent discussion, is the best form of education. Rising seas, its consequences, and the possibilities for solutions, should be present and accounted for by everyone who needs to stay ahead of the curve.”

Michael Goldstein

“The Greenland expedition is stellar, with spectacular scenery, luxury hotels, excellent food, and insightful education about adaptation to avoid catastrophe from rising seas.”

Frank Rodriguez
Corporate Creations, Founder and Chair, Palm Beach Gardens

“I went from a passing familiarity with sea level rise to a much more profound one. John incorporates glaciology, oceanography, geology and geopolitics to make the experience a true learning experience. The time on the ice makes it an unforgettable one.”
Gary Greenberg CFA
Head of Global Emerging Markets at Hermes, London

“Reading about sea level rise pales in comparison to KNOWLEDGE. Studying the Greenland Ice Sheet and sea level rise with John Englander is a deep-knowledge experience.”
Carl Eibl
Venture Capital, La Jolla

“Many scientists do not think broadly on the implications of sea level rise. This trip provided me an opportunity to connect with professionals across industries thinking deeply about the acute effects of climate change. Communicating science to a multi-disciplinary team and discussing these issues with industry professionals was an invaluable experience.”
Cooper Elsworth
Glaciologist & Climate Modeler, Palo Alto

“It was an unexpected experience of being thrust into understanding how rapidly our world is changing.”
