Do Falling Rocks Cause Sea Level Rise? Science Weighs In – CNN

Article Synopsis – At a hearing on climate change held by the House Science, Space and Technology Committee, Alabama Representative Mo Brooks posited that sea level rise could be caused by falling rocks or soil erosion. This is, of course, not the cause of sea level rise and the answer is easy to quantify. Currently “global sea level is rising at an average rate of about an eighth of an inch (3.3 mm) per year”. To get the necessary volume of sediment to equate to that amount of sea level rise, you’d have to scrape off the top four inches of soil from the entire country.
