How Distant Winds May Be Causing Antarctic Meltdown – Climate Central

Article Synopsis – New research suggests that changing winds along the east coast of Antarctica may be accelerating the melting on the western coast of Antarctica. As the winds in the east change, it causes a drop in sea level near the coastline. This creates large waves that travel the coast to the other side of the continent where they pull the warm water of the Circumpolar Deep Water current toward the coast. This is just one more piece of the extremely complicated puzzle of Antarctic melting. To read the actual article click here.
