Article Synopsis – My op-ed discussing the decision Indonesia has made to move its capital city of Jakarta in the face of rising sea levels. The combination of land subsidence and sea level rise has made Jakarta particularly vulnerable. “Instead of spending hundreds of millions of dollars on futile efforts to protect Jakarta, Indonesia will now start investing in a new capital city that has a sustainable future.” All coastal communities should take notice and start to plan for the future.
