Ancient Warm Period Hints at Future Sea Level Rise – Scientific American

slr cityArticle Synopsis –  A study in the journal Science has found that sea temperatures in a natural warm period about 125,000 years ago were “indistinguishable” from today, rather than up to 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 Fahrenheit) hotter as previously thought. Sea levels during that period were between six and nine meters (20-30 ft) above their present height. The study suggests that, in the long term, sea levels will rise at least 6 meters (20 ft) in response to the warming we are causing, though this could take hundreds or even thousands of years.

My Comment – The positive thing about sea level rise is that we have time to intelligently adapt.  We can slow, but not stop the rising seas. We must look to the future recognizing that virtually all present coastal city locations will eventually be underwater, except where we can adapt them by extraordinary measures. To read the actual article click here.
