Article Synopsis – For the first time on record, sea ice in the Laptev Sea has yet to start freezing, which could have widespread effects across the arctic. “Scientists are concerned the delayed freeze could amplify feedbacks that accelerate the decline of the sea ice,” as well as reduce plankton populations that remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
