Los Angeles Must Pay Billions to Adapt—Or Slip Into the Sea – Wired

Article Synopsis – According to a new report from the New York Academy of Sciences, it will cost Los Angeles up to $6.4 billion to protect its 74 miles of coast from increased flooding and sea level rise. The amount of property and infrastructure would probably make the cost worth it for large cities like L.A. The ports of L.A. and Long Beach alone provide $230 billion to the national economy annually. However, if sea level rise continues to accelerate, “infrastructure improvements might not be able to keep up, especially considering the magnitude of the engineering required to raise the elevation of a whole port”. To read the actual article click here
