Article Synopsis – New research that compared growth rates of coral reefs with predicted rates of sea level rise found that many reefs will not be able to keep up with the rising seas. Their “growth is now being hampered by combinations of coral disease, deteriorating water quality and fishing pressure, along with severe impacts from “coral bleaching” caused by climate change”. Loss of the reefs is not only a major concern for the ocean ecosystem, but will also leave coastlines more exposed to storms and flooding. To read the actual article click here
