Article Synopsis – Cape Town, South Africa is currently experiencing the worst drought in recorded history that could see it become the first city in the world to run out of water due to climate change. The city is edging closer to a day – known locally as “Day Zero” – when supplies will be so low authorities will have to cut off water to three quarters of the population. It is currently expected on July 9. These events are expected to become more common as the Earth warms, with current UN reports estimating that two-thirds of the entire global population could face a lack of sufficient water resources by 2025.
