Here’s What We Know about Wildfires and Climate Change – Scientific American

Article Synopsis – Deadly wildfires have raged across California’s wine country, leaving at least 29 dead and a trail of destruction in their wake. These are a few of the major climate-related factors that may be at play: rising temperatures make vegetation drier and more likely to burn; warmer temperatures increase lightning strikes, which often act as the ignition for wildfires; earlier springs extend the fire season; and climate change can intensify the winds that drive fires. Scientists are also concerned that if wildfires become more frequent or intense, the carbon emissions they release could exacerbate the progression of climate change, leading to a feedback loop. To read the actual article click here.
