Sunny summer skies are driving ice melt in Greenland – Grist

Article Synopsis – A new study has found that the majority of Greenland’s surface melt in the past two decades has been driven by decreasing cloud cover, not just warmer air temperatures. During this same time frame, the Greenland ice sheet has become the biggest single contributor to rising sea levels. What’s causing the decline in cloud cover is not yet clear, though it appears to be linked to a shift in a natural climate cycle called the North Atlantic Oscillation. This study illustrates how important cloud processes are to achieving accurate climate models. To read the actual article click here.
