Why do rates of global sea level rise vary locally? – NewsWorks

Article Synopsis – The global average sea level rise gives us a baseline from which we can look at the variations regionally. A more localized way to look at sea level rise is to take into account shifts in sea level and land, as well as other processes. This relative sea level rise calculation gives a more accurate account of how any particular area could experience the global phenomenon of sea level rise. Some of these local variations include land sinking from pumped out groundwater, land rising due to ice sheet melt, changes in wind patterns, and gravitational pull. To read the actual article click here.
